Cast iron keel box profiled to hull shape as a grounding plate. Wheel steering in cockpit and at chart table below to skeg hung rudder. Self draining cockpit. Teak laid cockpit seats and sole.
This yacht benefits from in mast furling and furlex on the forestay. Jackstays are fitted. There are 2 additional hatches making the main saloon bright and airy. The original main and genoa sails are stowed onboard as spares. The hull was treated with Nordseal Laminate Osmosis treatment before initial launch.
This yacht was first commisioned by my father from Northshore in 1991 and he sailed this until he was 81 years old. I have taken over the yacht since then. The yacht is well maintained and is due to be antifouled and have the engine serviced this winter. Very compehensive paperwork and receipts for all major work as well as original documents and manuals. Has been lightly sailed all its life around the English Channel .
Southerlys were still in production until the company closed in 2014, at which time the smallest model was the Southerly 32 at around £200,000+ on the water. The company has been taken over by Discovery Yachts in June 2017.

The Southerly 100 was introduced in 1983, being a slightly updated version of the 1979 Dick Carter Southerly 95, itself a development of the original John Bennett designed Southerly 28 from 1974.
Southerlys are renowned for their ability to float “on a damp lawn” and with the keel raised by the electrically powered hydraulic ram she only draws 1’ 10”, but with the keel down she draws a healthy 5’10” and can give a good account of herself to windward.
Hull and superstructure are heavy duty hand lay-up GRP mouldings. In the hull woven rovings and chopped strand mats are used in combination, with thickness increasing progressively towards the keel area. There is a balsa core in the topsides which stops just above the waterline. The deck is of sandwich type construction using balsa core stiffening, with plywood in high stress areas where fittings are positioned. Bulkheads are glassed in and the entire deck is bonded to the hull resulting in a strong and integrated unit. A teak rubbing strake is fitted externally. Interior joinery is of teak faced plywood with solid teak trims, built onto GRP base modules which are glassed onto the hull.
The wedge-shaped drop keel sits in a massive cast iron grounding plate, which not only protects it but also acts as a substantial contribution to the ballast. It is bolted onto a recess in the hull using stainless steel bolts. It acts as transverse stiffening in way of the keel slot and protects the hull when taking the ground. The aerofoil swing keel is cast iron with a stainless steel pivot pin fitting into a substantial boss at the forward end of the grounding plate. The swing keel is raised by an electric or hand operated single ram hydraulic system which is attached to the swing keel by a pulley system. Switches to raise or lower the keel are at both cockpit helm and pilot house.
The accommodation offers six berths in two cabins with 7 ft max headroom. Fore cabin with two overlapping single berths, storage and opening hatch to foredeck with mosquito netting. Saloon with U-shaped dinette to port with adjustable height table, which can convert to a double berth, settee opposite and various storage lockers. Chart table and steering position to starboard. Quarter berth aft to port. Separate heads compartment with Jabesco marine toilet, shower and washbasin. Pressurised cold water system throughout which is plumbed for both hot and cold ( gas heater removed due to change in regulations). Eberspacher diesel fired warm air heating system .
