Goosander is a Bermudan rigged sailing sloop. The hull is of mahogany planks on oak frames and ribs. The planks are laid carvel style but rather than requiring caulking the sides of the planks are bevelled and nailed vertically to achieve a seal. The hull is of full form with raked stem, round bilge and transom stern. The vessel has a ballast keel and full from rudder set to the stern post. The vessel is equipped with a new sectioned spruce mast, commissioned 2020 with jumper stays and stainless steel rigging. The rigging is of 6mm stainless steel wire rope with furling system for forestay.
There is an inboard two cylinder Beta Marine 10HP diesel engine fitted, with less than 600 hours and a two blade fixed pitch bronze propeller. The vessel has the high sided coach roof covered with a non-slip painted canvas sheath. The decks are planked in Iroko and were resealed in 2019. Access to the cabin area is by sliding hatch and washboards.
There are two cockpit lockers and an aft deck locker. Internally, the vessel has a simple lay out, with open fore cabin with twin V berths and head. The head is a manually operated Par sea toilet. The saloon has two settees, a galley and chart table and removable centre table. The engine is located below the self draining cockpit floor. The vessel has a hard plastic portable fuel tank stored in the aft deck locker.
There is a manual bilge pump in starboard cockpit locker and Rule electric bilge pump fitted in the main bilge wells. The vessel has a plastic flexi tank for fresh water in port cockpit locker. There is a U-belt life ring and holding bracket. There is a bulkhead compass by Suunto, masthead trilight, VHF Antenna and VHF radio, NASA Target 2 Log and NASA Target 2 Sounder and electric auto helm. The vessel has a 20lb CQR anchor mounted on the fore deck with approx. 20 metres of short link galvanised chain fed through a spurling pipe. There is a single bow roller unit, 2 bronze fairleads forward with Sampson post and 2 cleats and leads aft. Currently there is no gas on board but sale includes a two ring with grill gimbal gas cooker.
The vessel is continually maintained in a sound and seaworthy condition and has been stored ashore, under a tarpaulin cover (included in sale), each winter for the last twenty two years. Sale includes a yard trailer.
