Built by the famous French manufacturer Fountaine Pajot, at their Corneel shipyard, the Love 28 provides a very practical combination of stability, light helm, excellent performance and 6 berths. Earlier boats had a bridge deck but the ‘Love’ specification has a bubble cabin between the two hulls containing a stainless topped galley-cum-eating area as well as converting to a twin berth (giving a total of 6 berths) with comfortable, well-maintained bunk cushions (all bunks and sails are stored ashore during the winter period). Additional Lewmar forward hatches were fitted in 2005 for through-ventilation,
She is easily capable of reaching mid-teens off the wind, tacks smoothly and readily sails downwind at speed using one of the two cruising chutes. She makes a versatile and comfortable boat ideal for shorter family trips away. A hinged rear ladder (plus detachable forward ladder) offers an excellent swimming platform. The boat is very agile, light on the helm, cuts through the waves and is very easy to tack single handed. Even in the lightest winds it virtually never misses stays.
Speed around a course would be very similar to an 11m cruiser racer yacht and she was winner of the Dresdner Jersey to Guernsey race 2005 (with over 100 entrants) in 2 hours 40 mins. There are very few decent modern multihulls in this price bracket. Although the design, well ahead of its time, was laid down in 1986, Fontaine Pajot’s designers Joubert/Nivelt got is so right that it won boat of the year. It’s rare to find 28-foot version as opposed to the standard Corneel 26 and the extra 0.5m does make a difference in terms of speed and motion.
The boat is sold with full history of previous sales/purchase invoices.
The 8hp Honda four stroke outboard was recently serviced, fitted with new electrics and carburettor in 2023. It runs quietly and smoothly. Year of manufacture 2006. Manual Start and operated by cable remote (fitted to the side of the engine casing). It charges the cabin battery used for instrumentation and lighting, there is also a solar panel on the cabin roof with a charge controller next to the main switch/fuse panel in the cabin.
A Raymarine ST2000 tiller-pilot is fitted (and there is also an ST1000 as a back-up) both operated from a portable wireless remote. Instead of the normal two mainstays and one jib stay, three extra stays were professionally fitted around 2005 (i.e. two mainstays on each side and two forestays to give extra stiffness in a brisk wind. One forestay can be used to secure the bowsprit (stored in a hull, but not presently fitted) allowing for two jibs to be flown.
