This much loved racing yacht designed by superyacht builder Ed Dubois requires a new home due to a purchase of a new boat as we have a new edition to the family. As a result we are open to offers as we need to sell the boat in the next month.
A survey was conducted in 2020 which I am happy to share listing the value of boat £12,000 before we purchased a new Tohatshu sail drive in 2022 and stack pack in the same year.
The boat also comes with its own cradle and is ready to be sailed away.
Anomaly is a one-off IOR racing yacht designed by Ed Dubois and built on the Clyde by the McKinnon Shipyard in 1980. She was built in coldmoulded wood veneers. We purchased this yacht in May 2016 from the previous owner who had owned the boat for over 27 years. During that time, the yacht was regularly raced and, gradually over time, much of the vessel’s hardware was either replaced or upgraded in order to maintain the yacht’s competitive potential.
This boat was surveyed in 2020 with this concluding comments: The yacht is strongly constructed with no evidence of any structural issues and her epoxy and varnish finishes have been professionally maintained to the highest standards. Her immaculate cosmetic and structural condition is also testament to her current and previous owners who have spared no expense in maintaining and preserving such a rare forty-year old classic yacht.

The yacht’s hull is cold-moulded from three layers of planking attached to multiple stringers and fabricated wooden
frames. The first two inner layers of planking are double-diagonal marine plywood and the third and outer layer is
solid Honduras mahogany, close-seamed planking fitted fore & aft. All three layers are bonded together with epoxy
resins over a framework of mahogany stringers spaced at approximately 6” centres from the keelson to the sheer.
Deep transverse ring-frames made from marine plywood and solid mahogany bracing are fitted throughout the hull
on approximately 48” centres. The backbone of the yacht is fabricated from solid mahogany with the keelson
having additional strength added from a number of solid mahogany deep-floors which terminate at the turn of the
bilge. Additional hull strengthening is provided by several marine plywood transverse bulkheads and horizontal
panels which divide the interior into a monocoque style of construction.
A forward raking, curved transom is constructed in a similar fashion to the main hull with marine plywood double-
diagonal inner planking. The transom planking is completed with a third outer layer of herring-bone style outer
layer of planking in solid Honduras mahogany.
The whole structure is encapsulated externally and internally with multiple coats of epoxy resin prior to being
varnished or painted. Externally, the topside epoxy coatings have been heavily varnished to provide the epoxy
resins with UV protection. The bottom of the hull, up to the waterline, has been epoxy sheathed with a light
fibreglass fabric prior to being coated with underwater primer and an antifouling paint system.
