Albin Ballad Sailing yacht for sale. Auriga is a very special example of this well-known Swedish classic design of the early 1970’s of which over 1500 were built. An impressive sailing yacht known for its seakeeping and handling. She shows good performance, especially in heavy weather, up-wind as well as light winds. The interior is cosy and well laid out and accommodating.
This particular example – Auriga – was extensively kitted out and prepared for blue water cruising; she completed an Atlantic circuit in 2015. She now presents an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to sail further afield, but can’t afford a 60’ Oyster!
Although the accommodation appears simple it’s all functional cosy and effective, and a viewing is very much recommended to see the details that will make this yacht a good bet for a cruise.

Auriga was upholstered throughout with waterproof fabric, and was equipped with a focus on comfy sea berths.
Auriga has now been under our careful ownership for over 5 years, during which time she has been well loved, and has travelled widely. In her current state she would love some cosmetic TLC, but is ready to sail away. After returning from our Atlantic cruise we have sailed regularly around the South of Britain and, were we not selling, would certainly be out sailing as soon as the new season starts.
Modifications for blue water sailing included structural work such as fitting an inner forestay, reinforced bulkheads and chainplates. She is equipped with Monitor windvane self-steering, vital for any short-handed long distance sailing. There is also an array of safety gear on board including heavy weather equipment.
It should be said that compromises have been made in cosmetic appearance, but if you want to fulfil a blue water sailing ambition and are limited in budget then Auriga presents an opportunity you should take seriously.
The electrics are simple, but reliable and functional. LED lighting was installed throughout. There is a Garmin GPS, NASA depth sounder and VHF/AIS. Although she lacks for some more complex equipment such as radar or fridge, this has meant a reliable system that requires minimal upkeep and is trustworthy when heading off-grid.
A new Beta 14 engine was fitted professionally in 2014 and has only 500 hours logged. The engine is, in line with its young age, is smooth running and a reliable starter.
Aft, self-draining cockpit with plenty of storage. Many lines are led to the cockpit, although halyards are primarily located at the mast.
Auriga is equipped with hanked-on headsails for added simplicity and reliability. On board there 10 different headsails, (including two storm jobs, and two spinnakers). Due to the rating rules of their day Albin Ballads are equipped with large overlapping genoas, and relatively small mains.
A lightly used and valeted second hand main in good condition was purchased 2019.
