Hull and Deck
Laminate construction of hull: isophtalic gelcoat and isophtalic polyester is used. Hand lay-up method, insulated with Divinycell
PVC-foam against heat and cold except in the keel and rudder area - are which is solid laminate. Integrated rubbing strake with brass strip. Blue decorative band in gelcoat. Strong under floor reinforcements, bonded with composite. Iron girder under the floor under the mast support for additional reinforcement.
Bulged lead keel with reinforcement bolted on with 16st 30mm diam stainless steel bolts. The rudder is carefully mounted for sensitive rudder feel. Strong engine foundations of GRP for effective sound insulation. Deck and coachroof areas and also cockpit are of sandwich construction, solid in parts, laminated to the hull.
Non pigmented gel is used below the waterline to help prevent osmosis
Vinylester resins are used throughout for added strength and osmosis prevention

Sea Mist is a 36 LOD Sea Witch gaff rigged ketch. She was designed by Hugh Angelman of Wilmington boat works in California USA. She was built by Jensen boat yard in Denmark for her first owner Dr Arthur Petersen, and shipped to California. The hull is 1.5 inch African mahogany planks, with teak decks, and rails, etc. Sea Mist is the only Sea Witch with a figure head, complimenting her clipper bow. The original Sea Witch won the Transpac race from Los Angeles to Hawaii in 1941 on corrected time. She held that record for 18 years. Sea Mist is a very comfortable vessel which sleeps six, or eight at a pinch.

This is a very traditional yacht, a so-called "CLASSIC" as far as the aesthetics are concerned. Both the interior and exterior were given a classic design and this was very much reflected in the wood paneling. The classical style was carried throughout to the very last detail with the joint co-operation between the owner and the designer.
In spite of its very traditional aesthetics this yacht represents the most modern thinking with respect to materials, methods and equipment selected.
One of the challenges with this project are the wood work; there was so much attention to detail. Still everything had to be handcrafted individually, whilst still maintaining a very high quality throughout. But to us at factory it just clarified one important part of this project, which we already knew and that is that we have extremely talented carpenters.
This yacht can sailing away from late autumn in temperatures below freezing with snow and ice on the deck. The owner shall be done successful ocean crossings with her.
