Millers of St Monance produced the Fifer range of motor sailer yachts, inspired by their very sea-worthy fishing boats. All are built to exceptionally robust scantlings and are excellent sea-boats.
The 33' version proved to be the most popular.
Long keel, raked stem, canoe stern and powerful sheer to rise to the steep short seas typical of Scottish waters. Planked in 1.5" larch fastened with galvanised spikes to heavy sawn oak frames on an oak back-bone, oak floors.
The original teak deck laid on a ply sub deck has been sheathed and painted to make it fully water-tight.
In 2009 the bulwarks were professionally replaced with smart new mahogany ones - some of the photos on this site were taken before this was done.
Door to the deep sheltered aft cock-pit.
Bermudian ketch rig on varnished masts and spars. Stainless steel rigging replaced 3 years ago.
New (2008) mainsail, mizzen and jib give her very useful sailing.
Thornycroft 230 55hp 4-cyl diesel, installed in 1980 gives her 7knts max.
5 berths. Forward cabin with V-berths.
Saloon cabin with 2 settee berths.
Pilot berth in the wheel-house.
Smart galley with new spirit cooker.
Heads compartment with sea toilet, hand basin and solar shower.
30 galls water, 40 galls diesel. Lovely varnished mahogany joinery, smart cushions and oil lamps make a very warm, inviting cabin. Full head-room all through.
Compass, sounder, life raft, 2 anchors, electric windlass, inflatable dinghy and outboard engine, colour chart plotter, GPS, auto-pilot.
Now (25 September 2009) just laid up for winter and in indoor storage just north of Oban. She will be relaunched in April 2010 with fresh paint, varnish and antifouling and a fully serviced engine. |
