Click the link in the further details section below to see the full details, many photos and 360 degree virtual tours of this boat. Built in 1959 by A H Moody & Son to a Charles A Nicholson design, Ivanhoe is constructed of Honduras Mahogany on American Elm frames, with a lead keel and solid decks.
About 18 were built at various yards to class specifications, with some minor variations in dimensions and layout.
She is a beamy boat for her period giving her a surprising amount of space below and a 5ft 11in headroom.
Designed in her day as a state of the art cruiser/racer she has a 7/8 fractional rig with running backstays.
A regular competitor on the West coast for many years she still gives a good account of herself.
Dismasted during the 2005 West Highland Week by a freak gust and a failing spreader, a new mast was ordered. The new custom made wooden mast was commissioned in 2006 along with new rigging and a new main sail.
In the capable and caring hands of the current owner since 1974 she has spent most winters ashore under cover.
Her original Thornycroft Petrol engine was replaced in 1975 with a new Watermota Sea Panther 30HP Diesel. In turn this was fully reconditioned using an exchange short engine in 1998 and is in good condition having been regularly maintained. The gearbox has been fully refurbished including new bearings in 2007.
Under power she cruises comfortably and economically at 6 kts and has a maximum speed of 7-7.5 kts. |

OWNERS COMMENTS
We bought BAIOS in 1984. Since then we have been sailing every Summer for ten weeks in Greece and Turkey. In September, she is hauled up in a shipyard and covered with a big awning. She has been out of the water 85% of time since we bought her. Osmosis was treated in 1986 during the wintering at Gennaro Gatto boat yard in Italy. We do our best to keep BAIOS at the highest level such a boat can reach. We spend time and money. She is a lovely boat, very pretty and she has had a lot of compliments. Much cared for and loved. Selling because we wish to buy a larger yacht. We have done some wonderful cruises on BAIOS and hope that the next owner will be happy, as happy as we were.

If one looks up the word "classic" in the dictionary you will find the following entry.
clasĀ·sic (klsk) adj.
1.Belonging to the highest rank or class.
2.Serving as the established model or standard.
3.Having lasting significance or worth; enduring.
4. Formal, refined, and restrained in style.
5.Simple and harmonious; elegant: the classic cut of a suit; the classic lines of a clipper ship.
It would be safe to say that this Nicholson 32 Mk8 meets all of those conditions with consummate ease.
This boat is, without doubt, a classic.
Lovingly maintained to an excellent standard whilst still maintaining most of the original features that just demand attention from even the most casual admirer.
This boat is only on the market due to the unfortunate ill-health of the owner who, like me, would love to see her go to a good home.

Once, all proper yachts looked like the Nic 26, and the world was probably all the better for it.” Hmm, reviewing that sentence, there’s no doubt about it; I’ve been reading too much Tom Cunliffe recently, and his writing style is infectious. Tom knows a bit about boats though, and I think he would approve of the Nic. With her long deep keel and full-length transom-hung rudder; her deep, safe cockpit and pair of cosy quarter-berths, here is a small yacht with an impeccable design pedigree. Nothing flash about her, but there is a timeless elegance apparent in her lines and a reputation for dependable sea-keeping that makes Nic owners fanatics about the marque. A classic yacht, for all her diminutive size.

Click the link in the further details section below to see the full details, many photos and 360 degree virtual tours of this boat. Around 150 'Nic 38's, were built between 1966 and 1973, and due to their solid construction and continuing ability to charm they are to be found all round the world, with at least one completing a full circumnavigation.
This one is in great condition and was fitted with a new Beta 37 HP engine in 2002. The main cabin has a Reflex diesel cabin heater.
At the time of photographing this boat had the mast on deck which makes it difficult to appreciate the open spacious layout, both fore and aft, but there's bags of room on this secure feeling boat.
Camper & Nicholsons bought the design rights in the mid sixties from the American designer John Alden. Originally conceived by C&N as a motor-sailer, this label was quickly forgotten when she won the yachting World One of a Kind Rally for motor-sailers being by far the fastest under sail and sail and power combined. The accommodation comprised of three separate cabins and two heads and the standard of finish was top class. Many 38s had teak laid decks laid on the GRP deck. Production ceased in the mid-70s when they were found to be too expensive to build. |
