The Cape Dory Intrepid 40 center cockpit sloop is a well known and a highly respected offshore cruiser designed by Chuck Paine. She was custom built to very high standards by Intrepid Yachts, Inc. in Massachusetts for the original owners in 1983.
This vessel was designed as a fast sailing, well built yacht to provide maximum interior accommodations for her length. She was built as a long distance, live aboard cruiser and is equipped with many modern conveniences for easy sailing.
She has had continual maintenance and upgrading by her current owners. With a cut away forefoot keel, sloop rig, pedestal steering with auto pilot, and center cockpit she has proven to be a very comfortable and seaworthy vessel. |

Carl Alberg designed, New England, USA, long-keeled ketch. GRP, encapsulated lead keel, bulletproof construction. Atlantic crossing and Carribean cruises in log. Refit 2003 prior to Atlantic crossing including engine reconditioned, new stainless steel fuel tanks, replaced stern gland, dye tested stainless steel rigging, reconditioned heads. Teak toerails, handrails cockpit sole and helmsman's seat.
Engine; Yanmar YSE10 12 hp engine (reconditioned 2003), racor secondary and napa primary fuel filters (changed twice a season). V drive 2:1 reduction gearbox. 2x 15 gal stainless steel tanks (1/4 gal/hr = 7-10 days motoring!!)
Steering; Edson worm gear to wheel.
Rigging and sails; ketch with boomed, self-tacking jib. Two sets sails inc. 130% genoa. Main and mizzen stack packs (new 2007).
Equipment; VHF, Raytheon Radar, handheld Garmin GPS, echosounder, log, 4 man liferaft, Raymarine ST3000 autohelm, seasave lifering with line, 2x 75 amphr deep cycle and 1x starter battery, eberspacher diesel air heating (2007), 35lb CQR + 40ft chain + 100ft warp, 40lb fisherman + 15ft chain, 15lb danforth type kedge + 10ft chain), manual windlass, double bow roller (2006), 4x fenders, dodgers, sprayhood. Solid bronze seacocks - serviced annually
Accomodation; All teak lined panelling. Bronze opening ports. Double skinned - no condensation. Galley - Paraffin 2 burner stove with cooker. Seawater and freshwater taps to sink. Ample storage and worksurface space. 1/2 admiraltyCharttable. Saloon - 6'2" each side with pull out double. Two sizes of de-mountable tables. Skylight hatch. Teak sole with bilge access. Head - full standing headroom, sink, head to port and full size draining locker to starboard. Dorade ventilation. Forecabin; full standing headroom, standard V berth with infill. 6'2" length berths. Teak lined panelling. Seat and solid teak drawers under berths. Anchor locker forward.
Comments; Well mannered, seakindly and easily driven. Achieves hull speed with minimum of fuss. Spacious with full headroom throughout. Maintained to a high standard. Wintered ashore. Survey 2005 available. No osmosis. Very reluctant sale due to increasing family size. |

The flagship of the Cape Dory line is the 36. This fine yacht was designed by from the keel up by Carl Alberg to provide the maximum combination of both comfort and performance in a yacht of this size. The standard 36 is cutter rigged and is powered by a Perkins four cylinder fresh water cooled diesel auxiliary. She has 6 berths, carries 132 gallons of water, 43 gallons of diesel, and is a true blue water cruiser. Despite the emphasis on ocean cruising capabilities assuring her ability to stand up in a blow, beat to windward or track effortlessly on long downwind runs, the Cape Dory 36 is not intended soley as a single purpose, long distance, passage making yacht. While powerfully built and heavily rigged for offshore work, she was designed to be equally well suited for the gentle breezes of an afternoon sail or weekend cruise. The cutter rig with ample sheet and halyard winches, jiffy reefing gear and self tending, boomed staysail, make her easy single or short handed. Husband and wife crews will particularly appreciate the double head sail rig which offer a variety of sail changes and shorting options. Her interior layout is extremely comfortable and her joinery is Cape Dory's finest. With Carl Alberg as the designer and Cape Dory as the builder, what else could be better? Solid construction, wonderfull sailing characterics, high resale value and eye pleasing lines are just a few things that all Cape Dory owners brag about.
