Over an 8 year period, MacGregor 65 Corporation built 100 of these magnificent yachts. During its production run, it was the best selling large yacht in the history of sailing.
The MacGregor 65 holds many long distance sailing records. It was also one of the finest long distance cruising yachts ever built.
The MacGregor 65 is designed for worldwide cruising and chartering. It is one of the few production yachts eligible for the ABS +A1 rating and CG certification.
It offers the highest quality fiberglass construction. Each boat is built of individual layers of fiberglass fabrics, hand-laid, in a carefully controlled process.

HULL:
Hand laid fiberglass mat and woven roving. Each layer is impregnated with resin and cured. Continuous longitudinal stringers provide support for the Hull shell
The raised area across the centerline is a 3" thick solid fiberglass layup that carries the loads imposed by the Keel.
Bulkheads are bonded on both sides to the shell and stringers with 1/4" thick fiberglass layups. The full bulkheads give the Hull tremendous stiffness and strength.
Individual Fiberglass liners fit between the bulkheads forming the floors, berths, seats & cabinetry. Liners bond to the hull and bolt to the bulkheads to add greatly to the structural integrity of the boat. Hull and deck are extremely strong, with extra reinforcement at high stress points: around chainplates, Rudder fittings, the Mast base, etc. Hull and deck are joined with 3/8" S/S bolts on 4" centers. The joining flange is external eliminating a potential source of leaks. Mast steps on a transverse solid fiberglass Hull beam, 20" wide and 3" thick, including the Hull. This beam also supports the forward end of the Keel, extending sideways for chainplate loads. The 65 has continuous longitudinal stringers supported by transverse bulkheads (at right angles to the stringers). 2 Water tight bulkheads: Fwd bulkhead at the rear of the anchor locker. Aft bulkhead is under the steering pedestal.

NAVIGATIONAL EQUIPMENT:

The autopilot then serves as a backup steering system. Another major advantage of this navigation/steering station is that the navigator can see what is going on outside the yacht.

New Yankee head sail, May 2004, 14 oz. Dacron, 100% fore triangle, 820 square feet, Black UV Sunbrella outer cover, Articulating Foam Luff to maintain sail shape by Barow Sails in Trinidad.
Two Stay Sails, 400 square feet, one Spectra and one Dacron, both in good condition.
The Main, 540 square feet, is Dacron with Harken BattCars, Full Length Battens, Two Jiffy Reef Points. This sail needs repair or replacement.

2002 package, Irish boat with all Vat paid and Documentation, Macgregor braked trailer, 50 hp honda, 6 berth, sea toilet, full interior and exterior cushions, all excellent condition, Main with lazyjacks and stack pack, furling Jib and Genoa, much new equipment in 2007, wind instruments(250), log(120),new boxed bimimi and frame(400), fire extinguishers, gas and smoke alarms, DSC VHF, new sheets, solar vent, stainless steel fender baskets and many other xtras. THis boat is also fitted with a custom stainless steel fitting that disengages the engine from the rudders for a much more sensitive feel when under sail (priceless and unique to this boat). I would consider p/x of an outboard powered sportfisher, dory, rib etc, suitable for diving, etc. Dont call if you want to make silly offers or waste my time please. THis is currently the cheapest mac 26 on the market in Uk or Eire
Just a note - I was asked about this by a caller.
The trailer is a MAcgregor braked trailer. both the hand and running brakes are working, I will fit new bearings prior to sale. THese traiers are not galvanised. they are factory painted, mine also haas 2 coats of hammerite. BE aware that some of the galvanised roller trailers with some of these boats may not be ideal. The rollers with their swivelling arms tend to raise the boat several inches and can make recovery more difficult. if you check out the macgregor marketing hype you will see that they use these traiers for a reason. Also the point loading inflicted on any hull by rollers can cause deflection over long periods of time. THe bunked trailers spread these loads more evenly. |
